There were several concepts applied during this assignment. We focused on color theory, composition rules, and line drawing techniques using the Adobe Draw app and an Apple Pencil. I began by layering shapes in the background and filling them in with analogous color pairings. I added another layer on top of the shapes in order to begin the black line drawing of the woman. I used a picture of a woman I found through a random Google search. The original image had the woman holding something in her right hand. I found it distracting for the composition so I didn't include it.
I chose to only fill in her hair with solid black to give a focal point to the drawing. I chose a neutral gray to draw in the shadows and give a hint of depth to the image. If I could approach this project again, I would consider textures inside the shapes. I believe this would create more depth to the image. However, there is something great about the simplicity. The viewer can interpret the space on his/her own. Also, the overlapping shapes intrude on the figure to break up the sections nicely. |
